Maisam Nazari: U.S. Congress Members Express Support for the National Resistance Front

RASC News Agency: Ali Maisam Nazari, Head of Foreign Relations for the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, has characterized the recent meeting between the Front’s delegation and members of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee as “constructive.” He stated that U.S. Congress members have expressed support for the National Resistance Front. Nazari made these remarks following the conclusion of the first of a three-day series of meetings between the Front’s delegation and several members of the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday, September 11.

In an interview with The New York Sun, Nazari noted that Ahmad Massoud, the leader of the National Resistance Front, also engaged in an online discussion with Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. According to Nazari, during this meeting, Congress members pledged their cooperation to the Front. The two sides discussed the escalating threat of “global terrorism” within Afghanistan, human rights violations by the Taliban, the humanitarian crisis, and political issues.

Nazari added, “I believe this cooperation will strengthen following today’s meeting in Congress. Although the National Resistance Front and McCaul have been in contact for years, this was the first direct conversation between Ahmad Massoud and McCaul.” Reports indicate that McCaul reaffirmed his support for resisting the Taliban and praised the National Resistance Front’s efforts toward a democratic and pluralistic Afghanistan.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee has yet to comment on the meeting. Recently, the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee announced an invitation extended to the National Resistance Front for discussions with the committee. Last week, the National Resistance Front announced the dispatch of a delegation to Washington for talks with members of Congress.
