RASC News Agency: The Taliban publicly flogged six individuals, including one woman, in the provinces of Logar and Parwan. According to the Taliban’s Supreme Court, four of these individuals were whipped today (lMonday, September 2nd, in Parwan province. The Taliban’s Supreme Court issued a statement asserting that these four individuals were accused of “immorality.” Each of them was subjected to 39 lashes. The statement further mentioned that three of these individuals were sentenced to one year in prison, while the fourth received a two-year prison sentence.
In a separate announcement today,September 2nd, the Taliban’s Supreme Court revealed that two individuals, including a woman, were publicly flogged in Logar province. According to the statement, both of these individuals were lashed 39 times on charges of “running away from home.” The Taliban’s court also sentenced them to five years of imprisonment.
The flogging and other corporal punishments carried out by the Taliban have drawn sharp criticism from human rights organizations. However, the Taliban have consistently defended the enforcement of their version of Sharia law. Notably, there has been no evidence of the Taliban applying these same Sharia punishments to their own members.
According to media reports published in April of this year, the Taliban’s Supreme Court has, over the past three years, stoned 37 individuals and flogged 587 others, including 106 women.
