McCaul: We Cannot Overlook the Plight of Millions of Women and Girls Suffering Under the Taliban

RASC News Agency: Michael McCaul, Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, has sharply criticized the recent enactment of the Taliban’s “Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice” law, stressing that the world must not overlook the suffering of millions of women and girls under this oppressive regime.

On Saturday, August 24, the House Foreign Affairs Committee shared McCaul’s statement on X (formerly Twitter), responding to the Taliban’s latest legislative actions. McCaul condemned the Biden-Harris administration for their empty promises to support Afghanistani women, arguing that these failures have emboldened the “terrorist Taliban regime” to intensify their oppression, to the extent of prohibiting women from even showing their eyes in public.

He further argued that the Biden and Harris administration’s abandonment of the Afghanistani people has only emboldened the Taliban to systematically dismantle decades of progress in protecting the rights of women and girls. “We cannot forget the millions of women and girls suffering under the Taliban’s rule. The international community must remain steadfast in its refusal to recognize the Taliban,” McCaul asserted.

Recently, the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice announced that Hibatullah Akhundzada, the group’s leader, has officially sanctioned the “Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice” law, now in full effect. McCaul has called for immediate action to prevent American taxpayer dollars from being funneled to the Taliban.

The implementation of this law has sparked widespread international condemnation, with numerous countries demanding that the Taliban lift the restrictions imposed on women and girls. McCaul’s critique comes at a time when, over the past three years, the United States has provided billions of dollars to the Taliban, despite their increasingly repressive policies.
