RASC News Agency: Sources from various provinces report that the Taliban have imposed new restrictions on educational programs beyond the sixth grade that were previously broadcast through local radio and television stations. These measures, according to the sources, have been implemented under the directive of the Taliban’s Ministry of Education.
According to information from these provinces, officials from the Taliban’s provincial education departments have informed media managers that this decision was made following an official directive from the Ministry of Education. Since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan, education for girls beyond the sixth grade has been suspended. Nevertheless, local media in various provinces continued to broadcast online educational content, which had gained significant popularity among the audience.
Local sources have disclosed that Taliban officials from the Department of Information and Culture in several provinces have instructed media managers to halt the broadcast of educational courses for grades beyond the sixth on local radio and television stations. Some local media representatives have noted that, due to these restrictions, local media outlets already deprived of revenue from advertising had turned to hosting online educational courses and selling educational books, which have become essential sources of income in the current situation.
This latest move by the Taliban underscores their deep-seated animosity towards the education of girls and women in the country. The Taliban are not merely restricting access to education outside the home but are also determined to prevent Afghanistani women from becoming literate, even within their own homes.
