RASC News Agency: Local sources in Takhar report that the Taliban have detained Abdul Hasib Qorbani, the former chief of staff of the provincial governor’s office. On Wednesday, July 24, sources confirmed that the Taliban arrested Qorbani in Taloqan approximately two months ago and took him into custody.
According to the sources, the Taliban apprehended Qorbani from his home and subsequently transferred him to Pul-e-Charkhi prison. It is noted that Qorbani, who served as the chief of staff in the previous administration of Takhar, had been living an ordinary life since the fall of the Ashraf Ghani government. The motives behind this arrest remain unclear. Local Taliban authorities in Takhar have not commented on the situation.
It is noteworthy that the Taliban have also remained silent regarding previous detainees in Takhar. On the morning of Wednesday, July 24, the Taliban also detained the former head of the Anti-Narcotics Department in the district of Farkhar and transferred him to the 217 Omari Corps. In the past five days, the Taliban have arbitrarily detained at least six individuals in Takhar.
Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, there has been an increase in arbitrary arrests, secret torture, mysterious killings, and summary executions. The Taliban detain individuals on various charges and transfer them to prison. Most of these detainees are from Tajik-majority areas, arrested on ethnic and tribal grounds.
Many of those detained have not been informed of the reasons for their arrest or the charges against them. The Taliban continue to carry out arbitrary actions without accountability to the public or human rights organizations.
