Taliban Burn 45 Musical Instruments in Badakhshan

RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Department for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Badakhshan has announced the incineration of numerous musical instruments in the province. On Sunday, July 21, Samiullah Soroush, the head of the Taliban’s Virtue and Vice Enforcement in Badakhshan, confirmed that these instruments, which had been seized from various districts across the province, were destroyed by fire.

Soroush noted that no arrests were made in connection with the confiscation, yet a total of 45 musical instruments were set ablaze. This incident marks yet another instance of the Taliban’s campaign against musical instruments, following similar actions in various provinces across Afghanistan. Since the Taliban’s resurgence to power, the regime has imposed a ban on singing and music throughout the country. Numerous individuals have been subjected to beatings or detention for playing or broadcasting music.

In the wake of the Taliban’s takeover, many musicians and singers have sought asylum abroad, fleeing in fear for their safety. Despite their public denouncement of music, reports indicate that members of the Taliban themselves engage in listening to music and dancing. The British newspaper “The Telegraph” has previously reported that Taliban members have been seen indulging in these activities, even as they prohibit the public from doing so.
