Unknown Gunmen Assassinate Former Soldier in Faryab

RASC News Agency: Local sources from Faryab province report that in a continuation of targeted and mysterious killings, unidentified armed motorcyclists recently assassinated a former soldier in this province. Sources have informed the media that this ex-soldier, named Khairullah, was killed by unidentified gunmen in the city of Maimana, the provincial capital of Faryab, on the morning of Monday, July 15.

According to the sources, Khairullah was a resident of Tilan village in Pashtun Kot district, Faryab province, and had served as a member of the former security forces and as a bodyguard for Mohammad Tahir Rahmani, the head of the Faryab Provincial Council.VLocal Taliban officials in Faryab have yet to comment on this incident, despite the group being accused of targeting former security personnel.

Reports indicate that during their nearly three years of control over the country, the Taliban have detained, tortured, and killed hundreds of former military personnel under various pretexts. In some instances, Taliban members have even shared videos of the torture and killing of ex-soldiers on social media. Additionally, many family members and relatives of these former military personnel have also been detained, tortured, and in some cases, murdered.

These developments come despite the Taliban’s alleged secret leader issuing a general amnesty at the onset of their rule, claiming that no retribution would be taken against former military and government employees. Nevertheless, over the nearly three years of Taliban dominance, numerous international human rights organizations have reported multiple instances of former soldiers being killed or disappearing at the hands of the Taliban.
