Taliban Publicly Flog Woman in Balkh Province

RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that a woman was recently flogged 35 times in public in Balkh province on charges of “adultery.” According to a statement released by the Taliban’s court, the woman was punished on Sunday, July 7, based on the ruling of the Taliban’s appellate court in Balkh province.

The statement details that the flogging was carried out in the presence of officials from various Taliban departments and “a large number of people.” Since regaining control of the country, the Taliban have repeatedly punished accused individuals publicly across various provinces, often summoning the public to witness these events. Despite widespread criticism, the Taliban have continued these public trials and have executed five individuals in the presence of hundreds of spectators in several provinces.

Human rights organizations have condemned the physical punishment and execution of accused individuals by the Taliban, asserting that such actions violate human dignity and international law, urging the group to cease these practices. It is worth noting that the Taliban do not allow spectators to film or photograph the punishment of the accused.
