RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced the recent public flogging of three individuals in Paktika province as part of their ongoing extrajudicial punishments. According to a statement released by the Taliban’s Supreme Court, these individuals were flogged on Wednesday, June 26, in Yusufkhel district, Paktika province, on charges of “illicit relationships” and “theft.”
The statement detailed that these individuals were punished following a verdict by the Taliban’s primary court in Yusufkhel district. The Supreme Court’s announcement specified that two of the accused received 30 lashes each, while the third individual received 11 lashes. The court did not provide details on the execution of the flogging; however, it has been noted that such punishments are often carried out publicly.
Since the Taliban’s takeover, extrajudicial punishments have included the public execution of five individuals in various provinces, witnessed by hundreds of spectators. These corporal and public punishments, as well as executions by the Taliban, have drawn widespread condemnation from human rights organizations, which have denounced them as violations of international law and human dignity, calling for their cessation.
Despite these criticisms, the Taliban continue to administer public punishments, justifying them as “lessons” for others.
