RASC News Agency: Elif Shafak, the renowned author of “The Forty Rules of Love,” has criticized a Western expert who asserted that despite the Taliban’s actions, the group has brought stability to Afghanistan. In a social media post on Instagram on Thursday, May 30, Ms. Shafak expressed her outrage, stating, “Hearing this Western expert’s remarks makes my blood boil.”
The Turkish-British writer continued to denounce the normalization of restrictions on women in Afghanistan. Ms. Shafak said, “The words of a middle-aged Western man and international relations expert, who claimed that the Taliban have brought stability to Afghanistan despite everything, infuriate me.” She added, “What this Western expert refers to as ‘despite everything’ includes the most basic rights of Afghanistani women and girls.”
While she did not disclose the identity of the expert or the network that aired his remarks, she emphasized that Afghanistani women and girls must not be forgotten. Addressing the expert directly, Ms. Shafak stated, “To them, women are just minor victims, mere trivial details.”
The prominent author frequently comments on various issues, particularly women’s rights, on social media.
