Ethnic Strife: Taliban Exerting Pressure on Ismaili Families in Baghlan Province

RASC News Agency: Local informants from Baghlan have revealed that the Taliban issued orders for at least 70 Ismaili families to vacate their residences. Sources disclosed to the media on Tuesday, May 28th, that these families, originally hailing from Badakhshan Province, presently dwell in the Shamarq locality within the Pul-e Khumri district.

As per local accounts, the Taliban have mandated these families to evacuate their homes by the conclusion of Eid al-Adha. Additionally, they have explicitly conveyed that the properties do not belong to the residents, compelling them to depart. These directives, alongside escalating pressure exerted by the Taliban on this religious minority, such as coercing Ismaili families in Badakhshan to enroll their children in Sunni schools, underscore the Taliban’s heightened measures targeting this community.

Throughout their near three-year tenure, the Taliban have systematically oppressed both ethnic and religious minorities, egregiously infringing upon their rights with impunity, evading accountability from any overseeing authority.
