RASC News Agency: Local sources from Badakhshan Province report that members of the Taliban have arrested and tortured Rahimullah Joya, a social activist in the region. Sources informed the media on Sunday, May 26th, that the Taliban arrested Rahimullah in February of last year. Since then, he has been held in the Taliban’s prison in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan.

According to sources, Rahimullah Joya was detained and tortured by the Taliban for allegedly publishing images of National Resistance Front fighters who were killed in clashes with the Taliban in Shuhada District, Badakhshan. Sources add that the Taliban arrested this social activist from his home in the village of Parkhawab, in Shuhada District, despite the intervention of tribal elders and his relatives. He remains in custody.

The Taliban have not provided any explanation regarding this incident. Since their takeover of the country, the Taliban have consistently detained, imprisoned, tortured, and even killed political and civil activists in various provinces. Furthermore, the Taliban have not been accountable to any human rights organizations for their violent and oppressive actions against citizens, and they continue these actions despite widespread criticism.
