RASC News Agency: Save the Children has voiced concerns over the repercussions of floods on children in Badakhshan Province. In a statement released on Monday, May 12th, the organization expressed alarm over the staggering impact of the floods, which have left nearly 40,000 children in Badakhshan homeless.
According to the organization, recent flood statistics provided by the Taliban indicate that this natural disaster has claimed the lives of only 19 children in a village in Badakhshan. Arshad Malik, the head of Save the Children, stated that children in Badakhshan have lost everything.
Meanwhile, the organization highlighted the establishment of medical clinics by its health teams in Badakhshan, where male and female specialists are actively treating the injured. The organization believes that floods in Badakhshan and other provinces demonstrate Afghanistan’s vulnerability to climate change, with children bearing the brunt of its impact.
Save the Children called on the international community to take immediate and long-term action to address the immediate and long-term effects of the climate crisis in Afghanistan through increased financial assistance. Badakhshan and other northeastern provinces of the country witnessed devastating floods last Friday afternoon, claiming the lives of hundreds and injuring many more.
Taliban officials stated that these floods claimed the lives of 315 people, but sources report the death toll to be around 450, with dozens still missing.
