McConnell Describes U.S. Withdrawal from Afghanistan as a Green Light for Putin

RASC News Agency: Mitch McConnell, the U.S. Senate Minority Leader, recently remarked that the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan under Joe Biden’s leadership is perceived as “giving a green light” to Vladimir Putin. McConnell made this observation on Wednesday, April 24, during an interview with Fox News.

He criticized President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from Afghanistan, stating, “The retreat from Afghanistan is regarded as one of Biden’s greatest errors, the consequences of which have manifested on the international stage.”

The U.S. Senate Minority Leader emphasized, “The United States had kept terrorism in check in Afghanistan and should not have withdrawn its forces. When the withdrawal took place, it was comparable to giving Putin the green light to advance his plans for deploying his forces near the borders.”

Nearly three years ago, McConnell similarly commented that Biden’s plan to withdraw forces from Afghanistan was regarded as “one of the worst foreign policy decisions in U.S. history.”

The manner in which coalition forces withdrew and the subsequent situation in Afghanistan have consistently attracted significant criticism toward the United States and its allies.
