International Amnesty: Pakistan Urged to Halt Expulsion of Afghanistani Migrants

RASC News Agency: The International Amnesty organization has asserted that the Pakistani government is ignoring global appeals to cease the expulsion of migrants from the country. On Thursday, Apr 4, Amnesty International articulated in a press release that Pakistan must halt this endeavor.

The organization denounced Pakistan’s blatant disregard for the harassment, grave human rights violations, and potential humanitarian catastrophe that the expulsion of these migrants to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan could precipitate. According to the organization’s statement, the scheme to repatriate undocumented migrants from Pakistan contravenes international human rights laws and refugee rights.

James Jennion, a senior official at Amnesty International, cautioned that this decision jeopardizes the lives of over 800,000 Afghanistani refugees dispersed throughout Pakistan and could instigate another surge of harassment and detention. Recent reports from Pakistani media indicate that a fresh round of expulsions of Afghanistani migrants possessing immigration cards may commence in the near future.

Although a specific date for the commencement of the second phase of expelling Afghanistani migrants from Pakistan remains undetermined, officials of the country have intimated that this process could commence in early or mid-summer. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has disclosed that approximately 2.18 million documented Afghanistani migrants reside in Pakistan.
