The New School Year Begins Excluding Girls’ Attendance

RASC News Agency: The Ministry of Education of the Taliban group has initiated the new school year without the presence of over six million female students beyond the sixth grade. The Ministry of Education of this group announced the nationwide commencement of the new school year on Thursday, the first of Hamal 1403, urging the people of Afghanistan to enroll their children in schools, madrasas, and other educational institutions.

In its statement, the ministry emphasized that teachers and students should adhere to Islamic principles of “appearance and behavior” and refrain from wearing “non-Islamic” attire. Notably, the Ministry of Education of this group has not addressed the attendance of female students beyond the sixth grade in its published statement.

It is worth noting that it has been nearly 1000 days since the Taliban group prohibited girls beyond the sixth grade from attending school. This policy of the Taliban group has elicited global and regional reactions, prompting figures such as Hamed Karzai, Rina Amiri, and political analysts engaged in Afghanistan affairs to urge the Taliban to reopen schools to girls.
