RASC News Agency: Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Taliban, articulated in his recent remarks the imperative to bridge the gap between religious schools and mainstream educational institutions, advocating for the incorporation of religious knowledge alongside modern sciences for young graduates. He delivered these assertions on Sunday, Mar 3, during his address at the graduation ceremony of students from the Jamia Imamia School in Kabul.
Mullah Abdul Kabir asserted, “The Taliban ‘supports the people’ and, with ’38 political representations worldwide,’ is not internationally isolated.” He underscored the importance of Afghanistan educational institution graduates acquiring knowledge in religious sciences. Mawlawi Abdul Kabir highlighted the Taliban’s special attention to religious schools while concurrently aiming for the advancement of modern sciences in Afghanistan. This occurs as the Taliban, subsequent to assuming control of the country, are endeavoring to overhaul the curriculum of schools and universities, with the intention of diminishing modern education within the educational framework.
In a report dated October 21st, the Special Inspector for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) noted that religious teachings supplanted modern education across all tiers of the Taliban’s educational system, with the group’s educational policies limiting Afghanistani students’ curricula and consequently lowering the overall quality of education. Meanwhile, critics of the Taliban contend that the reduction of modern education hours in schools and universities seeks to cultivate religious extremism and align the populace with the group’s ideologies, thereby fostering indoctrination.
During the Taliban’s insurgency against the previous Afghanistan government, a significant portion of their military forces were recruited from mosques and religious schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan. There is apprehension that by augmenting extremist religious education, the Taliban will extensively train young Afghanistanis once again as their soldiers.
