RASC News Agency: Quoting local sources, the Taliban’s military court in Kabul has sentenced Mohammad Atef Daee, a university professor, to one year in prison. Sources informed the media on Thursday, February 29th, that in the severe month of January, a year ago, this university professor received a “disciplinary confinement” order from the Taliban.
The Taliban’s military court has cited Daie’s alleged payment of electricity bills and his family’s residence in a relatively affluent house in the Zaher Agbhar district as reasons for his conviction. Meanwhile, sources allege that Mohammad Atef was engaged in social media activism and girls’ education. He had criticized some of the Taliban’s misogynistic actions, resulting in his imprisonment by the group.
According to reports, the Taliban denied Mr. Daee legal representation and permitted his family to visit him in Pul-e-Charkhi prison only once for ten minutes “behind the window” within two weeks. It is noteworthy that Mohammad Atef Daee was summoned by the Taliban’s “Intelligence Office 02” on November 19th and subsequently detained by members of the group.
Mohammad Atef Daie, originally from the Panjshir district, primarily taught at private universities in Kabul. However, he was recently appointed as an advisor in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce by the Taliban, following the recommendation of the country’s traders and investors union.
