RASC News Agency: Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, recently addressed concerns regarding the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan. In an interview on Taliban News TV, Mujahid stated that the estimated number of ISIS forces in Afghanistan is around 80, and no more. He further mentioned that the Taliban is actively working to identify and apprehend these individuals, intending to transfer them to prison.
During his speech, Mujahid emphasized that all known shelters of ISIS forces in Afghanistan have been destroyed. He reassured the public that there is no imminent danger from this group to Afghanistan and its people. According to Mujahid, the remaining individuals associated with ISIS are few in number, estimated to be around 70 to 80, and they are currently on the run, being pursued by the Taliban. He also highlighted that many of them are already in prison or facing legal proceedings, and the support networks they relied on have been effectively dismantled.
While Mujahid did not explicitly name any specific country, he mentioned that the Taliban government has taken measures to prevent support for ISIS within Afghanistan. However, it is worth noting that in recent months, ISIS has carried out multiple suicide attacks in various provinces of the country, including the capital city of Kabul, resulting in numerous casualties. Despite the Taliban’s claims of clearing Afghanistan of terrorist groups, neighboring countries and the region continue to assert that Afghanistan remains a safe haven for such factions, a notion that the Taliban group vehemently denies.
