RASC News Agency: Pakistani media outlets reported on December 31st that Mullah Shirin, the governor of the Taliban group in Kandahar, is set to visit Islamabad to address the ongoing impasse between the group and Pakistan. According to Dawn Pakistan, Mullah Shirin is anticipated to engage in discussions with high-ranking military officials and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during his visit. While the precise date of his trip remains unconfirmed, sources suggest that the Taliban official will embark on his journey to Pakistan in January.
The Taliban group has not issued any official statements regarding Mullah Shirin’s visit to Pakistan. However, it is noteworthy that he is closely linked to the leadership of the Taliban and has maintained robust relations with both Islamabad and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the past. Reports also indicate that Mullah Shirin was part of the Taliban’s negotiation team in Qatar.
Recent developments have strained the relationship between the Taliban group and Pakistan. The harboring of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistani militants and the compelled deportation of Afghanistani refugees from Pakistan have contributed to the escalating tension between the two sides. Importantly, earlier reports also mentioned the imminent arrival of a delegation of Pakistani scholars, led by Moulana Fazal-ur-Rahman, the head of the Jamiat Ulema, in Kabul on Wednesday.
The ongoing conflicts between the Taliban group and Pakistan have prompted both parties to seek negotiations and address the current issues at hand. This has resulted in official visits by the Taliban group to Islamabad and Pakistani delegations traveling to Kabul, underscoring the significance of these matters.
