RASC News Agency: The Central Bank of Afghanistan, currently under Taliban group management, recently disclosed the incineration of one billion, 218 million, and 436 thousand Kabuli rupees—Afghanistan’s predominant currency. This revelation surfaced on social media on Thursday, December 21st, courtesy of the Taliban-controlled Central Bank. The institution specified that the funds were amassed from the central and southeastern regions of Afghanistan, notably Gardiz.
The assortment of outdated banknotes, ranging from one to one thousand Kabuli rupees—Afghanistan’s current currency was meticulously executed under the vigilant oversight of a dedicated team, as articulated by the Taliban-managed bank. Hedayatullah Badri, the leader of the Taliban faction within the central bank, underscored the significance of public awareness regarding banknotes and advocated for their proper storage to forestall deterioration.
Badri also accentuated contributing factors hastening the introduction of new banknotes, encompassing the prevalent reliance on cash in the market and the limited embrace of electronic payment systems and credit cards. This dependence on physical currency has led to a proliferation of obsolete banknotes across various provinces, posing transactional challenges for citizens. It is noteworthy that the Taliban-administered Central Bank of Afghanistan had previously conducted a similar collection and disposal of outdated banknotes from the north and east zones.
