RASC News Agency: In the aftermath of the forced expulsion of Afghanistani refugees from Pakistan and the successive earthquakes in Herat, Nasir Ahmad Andisha, Afghanistan’s representative at the United Nations Human Rights Council, has expressed deep concern over the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. Andisha, speaking at the 114th session of the International Organization for Migration, stated that recent events in Afghanistan have exacerbated the dire humanitarian conditions in the country. During this session, Andisha highlighted that the consecutive earthquakes in Herat and the involuntary return of Afghanistani migrants are significant factors contributing to the worsening situation in Afghanistan.
Mr. Andisha added, “More than half of Afghanistan’s population is in need of humanitarian assistance, and internal displacements, including natural disasters and climate changes, persist. The recent earthquakes in the Herat province resulted in substantial destruction and significant casualties.” He continued, “The inadequate response and handling of the devastating earthquake in Herat reveal the Taliban’s lack of capacity and the gap in international response. Following the earthquake, Afghanistan is grappling with a considerable influx of people returning involuntarily from Pakistan, with nearly 400,000 individuals expelled.”
Mr. Andisha also stated that since the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan, thousands of professionals, knowledgeable individuals, and skilled workers are leaving the country. This comes at a time when, after the deadly earthquakes in Herat, numerous families in the province have been rendered homeless, and a considerable number of individuals have lost their lives.
Furthermore, the forced expulsion of Afghanistani refugees from Pakistan has led to a challenging and precarious living situation for many refugees along the border, entangling them in numerous difficulties. It is worth noting that Afghanistan, following the Taliban’s takeover, has faced numerous crises, including poverty and unemployment, creating extensive challenges among its citizens.
