RASC News Agency: The Ministry of Refugees and Returnees of the Taliban recently issued a statement concerning the expulsion of Afghanistani refugees from Pakistan and Iran. According to a message published on the X social media platform on Monday, November 27th, a total of 2,067 Afghanistani asylum seekers were forcibly repatriated from Iran and compelled to return to their home country. The Taliban’s statement acknowledged that some of these migrants underwent involuntary deportation, while others opted for voluntary return.
The forced expulsion of Afghanistani immigrants from Iran impacted both households and individuals, as confirmed by officials at the Islam Qala Border crossing. The Taliban’s Ministry further disclosed that a segment of these repatriated individuals has been registered with the Immigration Department and subsequently referred to the offices of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
It is noteworthy that the recent surge in the number of Afghanistani asylum seekers being deported from the region and neighboring countries has raised significant concerns. The Ministry of Refugees and Returnees of the Taliban specifically highlighted the deportation of this particular group of migrants from Iran. This occurs at a juncture when the influx of Afghanistani immigrants to regional and neighboring countries has notably increased since the Taliban assumed control of Afghanistan. These immigrants now confront the imminent threat of forced deportation from the countries where they sought refuge.
Various international migration organizations have previously expressed their apprehensions regarding the repatriation of asylum seekers, calling for heightened humanitarian assistance to address these challenges.
