RASC News Agency: Following the provision of assistance by humanitarian organizations to the earthquake victims in Herat province, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) recently provided statistics showing that over the past month, at least 176,700 earthquake-affected people in Herat have received aid. According to an OCHA statement released on Saturday, November 12th, emergency shelters, cash assistance, non-food items, and shelter repair kits are among the provided assistance by humanitarian organizations to these earthquake victims.
The statement further mentioned that emergency shelters (tents) have been distributed to 11,400 affected families, and a total of $2.4 million in multi-purpose cash assistance has been disbursed to approximately 9,000 other families.
According to OCHA, among those who received cash assistance, a complete package (worth $340 for each family) was distributed to 5,500 families, and half of this package (worth $176 for each family) was distributed to about 3,500 families.
As per the OCHA statement, 12,500 affected families have received shelter repair kits, while over 9,000 other families have also received these kits. Furthermore, hygiene kits have been distributed to more than 6,700 women and girls, and 2,240 children have benefited from psychosocial support.
Moreover, the OCHA statement mentioned that access to safe drinking water has been provided to the earthquake-affected people in 142 villages in Herat.
This comes in response to the UN’s earlier expression of concern regarding the situation of these earthquake victims, stating that, even after more than a month, most of them still lack proper shelter and access to clean water.
