These books, curated by the movement, specifically focus on empowering women and highlighting their potential for success. One of the protesters emphasized the significance of this action.
The distribution of these books aims to keep the spirit and motivation of girls who have been deprived of education alive. The women protestors firmly believe that the Taliban’s attempt to obstruct women’s progress and acquisition of knowledge will not succeed. Instead, they view this restriction as an opportunity to take control of their own education and continue their pursuit of knowledge. The members of the Afghanistan Powerful Women Movement strongly advocate for the provision of quality education and better employment opportunities for women and girls. The Taliban’s actions have stripped away all fundamental human rights and transformed Afghanistan into a graveyard for women.
Despite widespread domestic and international condemnation, the Taliban has intensified their restrictions upon Afghanistani women and girls ever since they took control of the country. They have prohibited girls from attending school beyond the sixth grade and have effectively closed the doors to universities.
Both domestic and international authorities have repeatedly urged the Taliban to reconsider their stance and allow girls above the sixth grade to access education. However, the Taliban has shown no willingness to show flexibility in this matter. Instead, they have focused their efforts on establishing religious schools and implementing a curriculum that aligns with their beliefs, mainly catering to their own indoctrination among the students in Afghanistan.
