RASC News Agency: In the wake of escalating poverty rates across Afghanistan, the Ministry of Public Health of the in the Panjshir province, which is currently under Taliban control, recently announced that approximately 1,779 children in the province have been affected by severe malnutrition in the past six months.
The Ministry of Public Health in Panjshir stated that some of these children are being treated at Rukha local hospitals, while others are receiving care at the emergency hospital in Panjshir.
The ministry expressed concern over the lack of sufficient resources to treat these children and warned that this situation could even lead to the deaths of these children.
Furthermore, the ministry emphasized that a majority of these children are under the age of five.
This comes at a time when during the Taliban’s two-year rule in Afghanistan, poverty and unemployment rates in the country have reached unprecedented levels, resulting in a significant number of children in various provinces suffering from malnutrition.
In the latest report published by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) on October 19, of this year, it revealed that the number of patients suffering from acute malnutrition in Afghanistan has reached four million, with 3.2 million of them being children.
It should be noted that poverty, unemployment, and lack of maternal awareness have been recognized as significant contributing factors to the emergence of this disease among children, highlighting the need for increased attention to the care and well-being of children.
