RASC News Agency: The Foreign Minister of Tajikistan asked the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the United Nations to have a continuous dialogue about the increase in drug trafficking from Afghanistan.
Sirajuddin Mehruddin said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization plays an important role in realizing the goals of the United Nations.
He made these statements at the extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization newsletter, this meeting was chaired by the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan.
It is stated in the newsletter that the foreign ministers in this meeting exchanged views on improving the activities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, expanding cooperation with international organizations, especially the United Nations, and promoting interaction in the political and economic sectors.
It has been said that all participants agreed on the need to expand cooperation with the United Nations and other international and regional organizations in the interests of sustainable development.
In this meeting, Sirajuddin Mehruddin emphasized that regional organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, play an important role in complementing the efforts of the United Nations in dealing with challenges and threats.
On the other hand, Tajik President Imam Ali Rahman announced in his speech at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly that drug smuggling from Afghanistan has increased after the Taliban took over.
Imam Ali Rahman explained that Tajik border forces seized more than 10 tons of drugs on the border with Afghanistan in the last two years.
The United Nations Office on Narcotics and Crime also announced in its recent report that methamphetamine trafficking has increased 12 times in Afghanistan and the region.
