RASC: The United Nations has announced that the World Food Program has been forced to reduce its aid to Afghanistan due to a severe budget deficit.

According to reports, the World Food Program has cut its aid to Afghanistan by half.

Carl Skau, the deputy executive director of the World Food Program (WFP), stated in a press conference that this organization can only provide aid to five million Afghanistani people in need after the budget cuts.

He added: “The World Food Program has reduced its aid to the Afghanistan society from 75% to 50%, and in May, it had to remove eight million Afghanistani people from the list of aid recipients.”

The World Food Program has previously warned about the lack of funds to help the people of some countries, including Afghanistan.

In addition to Afghanistan, the institution’s aid to Syria, Yemen, Palestine and some African countries has also decreased.

Carl added that the overall level of aid has decreased in 38 of the 86 countries in which the World Food Program operates.

He said that the World Food Program needs 20 billion dollars to continue providing aid in these countries, and currently only 5 billion of this budget is available.

This official of the World Food Program continues to warn that 345 million people in the world are severely food insecure this year.

The World Food Program aids decreased in the situation when after the Taliban got control of the country millions of Afghanistani people lost their jobs and need financial aids.
