RASC: Local sources in Herat province say that the Taliban group has started the construction of a commercial market instead of the theater in this province.
On Wednesday, July 12, sources say that the Taliban will turn the theater of this province, which has a history of about 101 years, into a commercial market.
Sources add that Herat municipality destroyed the Herat Theater during the previous government, but the theater authorities and cinematographers did not allow the construction of the market.
According to the sources, the previous government also promised that this place will belong to cinematographers again.
Meanwhile, sources from Herat province say that although the Taliban group had promised the cinematographers after taking control that they would not be allowed to build a commercial market, the municipality of the Taliban group in Herat has now started the construction of this commercial market instead of repairing the destroyed theater.
At the same time, a number of scholars criticizing this action of the Taliban group say that Herat Theater is of high reputation and has a long history and a commercial market should not be built instead.
Wali Shah Bahra, one of Herat’s cultural experts, said in the presence of Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Taliban group: “At the same time as you come, the 101-year-old repair of the Herat theater will be demolished, and it will be turned into a so-called accessories trading market by the honorable municipality.”
Bahra added that Herat Theater has a special reputation in the world.
He asked Mujahid to stop the Taliban group from building a commercial market in the location of the theater.
The Taliban group in Herat has not officially said anything about this.
It should be mentioned that after the domination of Afghanistan by the Taliban group, this group has always declared its opposition to music, cinema and other artistic fields.
