RASC News Agency: According to reports from U.S. media outlets, Republican Senator Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia has strongly condemned the weekly transfer of $40 million in U.S. funds to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, calling it “outrageous.” In support of the “No Taxpayer Funding for Terrorists Act,” she declared, “It is outrageous that $40 million of your hard-earned money is being sent to the Taliban. This legislation will put an end to taxpayer dollars flowing to terrorists.” The bill, currently under review by the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee and set for deliberation in the Senate, aims to legally prohibit the U.S. government from providing financial assistance to Afghanistan under Taliban rule. Expressing her commitment on X (formerly Twitter), Senator Greene stated, “I am honored to support this bill to stop the flow of American dollars to terrorists.”
Initially introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on January 9 by Republican Congressman Tim Burchett, the bill faced multiple legislative hurdles and failed to secure Senate approval. Now, Republican Senator Tim Sheehy of Montana has taken charge of reintroducing the bill in the Senate and leading negotiations for its passage. In an official statement, the U.S. Congress clarified the bill’s objectives: “This legislation formally establishes U.S. policy in opposition to any financial or material support for the Taliban by foreign governments or non-governmental organizations, particularly those receiving American aid.” The bill mandates the U.S. Secretary of State to submit a comprehensive report within 30 days, detailing countries and organizations that have supported the Taliban, specifying the amount of U.S. funds they have received, and assessing how the Taliban has utilized these resources.
Furthermore, the Secretary of State is required to formulate and implement a strategic plan within 30 to 60 days to prevent such financial support, leveraging U.S. foreign aid as a deterrent. However, reports indicate that U.S. intelligence agencies may still be covertly financing Taliban-related operations.
