RASC News Agency: In yet another instance of the Taliban’s arbitrary detentions, local sources in Kabul report that the group has abducted a resident from Panjshir province and taken him to an undisclosed location. According to these sources, the individual, identified as Shafiqullah Atayi, a native of Panjshir, was apprehended by the Taliban’s intelligence forces in Kabul. Witnesses claim that he was initially beaten before being detained. Relatives of Shafiqullah Atayi have informed the media that he left his home in Kabul on February 9 and never returned. They are convinced that he was detained by the Taliban’s intelligence apparatus.
A close relative, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, revealed that Atayi was arrested for reasons that remain unclear and was subsequently transferred to an undisclosed location. The source also stated that the Taliban had previously threatened him. His family, deeply concerned about his safety and uncertain fate, has urgently called for his immediate release. As of now, the Taliban authorities in Kabul have refrained from commenting on his detention.
The Taliban have been accused of arbitrarily detaining hundreds of Panjshir residents. Just last week, three Panjshir natives were reportedly arrested in Kabul. Despite the group’s repeated denials of such allegations, mounting evidence points to a troubling increase in the number of arbitrary arrests carried out by the Taliban.
