RASC News Agency: A purported “permission letter” submitted by Dr. Abdullah Abdullah to the Taliban’s de facto Prime Minister, Mullah Hassan Akhund, has ignited widespread debate across social media. The letter, which has been circulating among users, reportedly requests authorization for Abdullah’s travel to India to attend his daughter’s wedding. In the document, Abdullah directly appeals to Mullah Hassan, stating, “As a father, I wish to stand beside my family on my daughter’s wedding day.” He further assures the Taliban leadership that “my visit is entirely personal and carries no political or ulterior motives.” Concluding the request, Abdullah extends a formal blessing, wishing Mullah Hassan success.
For years, Abdullah positioned himself as a political representative of the Tajik community. However, if the Tajiks have suffered historic betrayals, one of the most consequential was orchestrated by none other than Abdullah himself. He emerged as an enigmatic figure directionless, hesitant, and inclined toward political bargaining. Following the collapse of the corrupt republican regime, his continued presence in Kabul only reinforced suspicions, particularly among Tajiks, that he had long been a pawn in both ethnic and intelligence-driven power dynamics. Rather than fleeing after the downfall of the so-called Republic, Abdullah chose to remain in Kabul, aligning himself with Hamid Karzai widely regarded as the Taliban’s conciliatory “brother” to advocate for the extremist group. Today, his situation has deteriorated to such an extent that he is reduced to formally petitioning the Taliban for permission merely to reunite with his own family.
Had Abdullah not repeatedly betrayed his own people disregarding the electoral will of Tajiks at every critical moment he would not find himself in such a state of humiliation and irrelevance.
