RASC News Agency: Local sources in Ghor Province report that the Taliban have forcibly closed an English language training center in Lal wa Sarjangal district and detained its instructors. On Saturday, January 25, sources revealed to the media that the Taliban raided the “New Horizon” educational center in the district, shutting it down completely. The sources stated that the Taliban arrested four individuals, including a woman, following the closure of the English language center. The group justified their actions by alleging that the center was teaching girls beyond the sixth grade, a practice prohibited under their regime’s policies.
The Taliban in Ghor have not issued any statements regarding the incident. However, this is part of a broader pattern of their oppressive actions against education in the region. In the past, the Taliban have closed several educational institutions in Ghor and detained numerous teachers. Similar incidents have also occurred in Daikundi Province, where they shut down multiple training centers and imprisoned their educators. Over the past three and a half years, the Taliban have systematically deprived Afghanistani women and girls of their right to education.
They have banned women from attending schools, universities, and workplaces, effectively confining them to their homes. Although the Taliban have publicly claimed that these restrictions are temporary, their actions betray a deeply ingrained hostility toward women. This animosity is rooted in the Pashtunwali and “Afghan” cultural ideologies, which fundamentally exclude women from public life and deny them basic rights.
