RASC News Agency: Sources from Takhar report that the Taliban publicly flogged two individuals, including one woman, for allegedly “engaging in extramarital relations.” Additionally, the Taliban’s Supreme Court has confirmed that a woman and a man were whipped in the Farkhar district of Takhar. According to their statement, each of the accused received “39 lashes.”
Meanwhile, sources from Nangarhar have reported that the Taliban publicly flogged a woman in that province on the charge of “fleeing her home.” The Taliban’s Supreme Court issued a separate announcement stating that this woman also received “39 lashes” in the Kuz Kunar district of Nangarhar. This comes amid reports indicating that in the past month alone, the Taliban have whipped nearly 90 individuals, including women, across various provinces for a range of offenses.
Previously, the United Nations, in its quarterly report covering the period from July to September, stated that the Taliban whipped a total of 111 individuals throughout the country during this timeframe. The report documented that, over these three months, the Taliban subjected 95 men, 15 women, and one girl to flogging. Furthermore, the United Nations Human Rights Council condemned the Taliban’s use of corporal punishment and called for an immediate cessation of these practices. Amnesty International also expressed profound concerns over human rights violations, highlighting the lack of access to a fair judicial process in Taliban courts, while stressing that the Taliban continue to administer punishments with utter disregard for human dignity.
