RASC News Agency: Canada’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan has expressed the nation’s endorsement of the National Resistance Front’s (NRF) political message, while clarifying that Canada is not currently encouraging armed conflict or military action. David Sproule, Canada’s envoy to Afghanistan, stated, “Support for military action against the Taliban in Afghanistan is not an option for us at this time.” He also called for easing the severe restrictions that Afghanistani citizens, particularly women and girls, face under Taliban rule.
Sproule, who served as Canada’s ambassador to Afghanistan from 2005 to 2007, observed that with each new Taliban decree, conditions in Afghanistan reach increasingly critical levels. He expressed concern that the situation consistently worsens as Taliban policies further stifle Afghan society. He projected that the Taliban would likely maintain control in the foreseeable future, forcing Afghanistan to grapple with the consequences of extended Taliban rule. He emphasized the importance of establishing a stable political solution through international agreements, advocating for a power-sharing framework that includes reducing the oppressive restrictions imposed on Afghanistani citizens, especially women and girls.
Sproule further noted that international pressure on the Taliban is intensifying and should continue to grow. He described the Taliban’s restrictive policies against women as “horrific” and called for these limitations to be lifted, underscoring his support for the political message of the National Resistance Front. The National Resistance Front (NRF) emerged as a political and military movement in response to the Taliban’s resurgence, engaging in armed resistance to challenge the group’s authority.
Over the past three years, the NRF has orchestrated numerous operations against Taliban forces in various regions across Afghanistan, actively opposing the Taliban’s grip on power.
