On Sunday, November 3, these sources informed the media that the Taliban removed several students from their classrooms solely for not adhering to this dress code. Following the expulsion, the Taliban warned the students that they would face further punishment if they continued to defy the group’s stringent regulations. Taliban officials at Nangarhar University have not yet commented on the situation. Over the past three years, the Taliban have imposed increasingly severe restrictions on teachers, schoolchildren, university students, and faculty members across Afghanistan.
Just a few days earlier, the Taliban’s Department for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, in coordination with officials at Badakhshan University, mandated that professors, staff, and students maintain beards and wear caps. It is noteworthy that under Taliban rule, the people of Afghanistan are enduring some of the darkest days in modern history. In the 21st century, Afghanistanis find themselves stripped of basic freedoms such as the right to move freely and to choose their attire.
Yet, they are compelled to endure this reality while holding on to hope for an end to this medieval regime. However, it has become evident that the Taliban issue is far more complex; they appear to be part of a broader global criminal and intelligence-driven agenda, brought into Afghanistan with the backing of powerful international players to fulfill specific objectives. This explains why these powers not only remain silent in the face of the Taliban’s repressive and archaic policies but also supply the group with $40 million weekly, enabling them to entrench their grip on ignorance and oppression.
