RASC News Agency: Joe Wilson, a member of the U.S. Congress and Chair of the Subcommittee on the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia in the House of Representatives, has emphasized that Washington’s support for anti-Taliban resistance groups is critical to liberating Afghanistan from the “tyranny and oppression of the Taliban” and preventing the country from becoming a sanctuary for “terrorists.” On Friday, October 18, the U.S. Congress released a statement reporting Wilson’s meeting with the leadership of the United Afghanistan Front.
According to the statement, Sami Sadat, leader of the United Afghan Front, informed Wilson about the growing threat of “terrorism” originating from Afghanistan. “This threat continues to destabilize the region and presents significant dangers to the United States, as well as to America’s diplomatic, military, and commercial interests across the Middle East and Africa,” the statement emphasized.
The meeting also included Abdul Qayoom Rahimi, Chairman of the Political Commission of the United Afghanistan Front, Carl W. Blackstone, President and CEO of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, and James Smith, a veteran of the U.S. military. The central topic of the discussion was the formulation of a congressional strategy aimed at fostering cooperation and developing mechanisms to empower anti-Taliban resistance fronts in their struggle against the regime. Wilson further characterized the human rights situation, particularly regarding women’s rights under Taliban rule, as increasingly dire.
In Wilson’s view, the current situation is intolerable and requires urgent attention from the global community. Recently, a delegation from the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan also held talks with members of the U.S. Congress. However, the U.S. government had previously announced that it would not extend support to military fronts opposed to the Taliban.
