RASC News Agency: The World Food Program (WFP) has expressed profound concern over the pervasive poverty in Afghanistan, emphasizing the urgent need for investment in empowering the population and creating job opportunities to eradicate hunger permanently in the country. The WFP highlighted that poverty and unemployment have become widespread across Afghanistan, threatening countless lives and already claiming many.
According to the organization, half of the Afghanistani population continues to live below the poverty line, facing the ongoing threats of unemployment and destitution. In its latest report, the relief agency underscored that while distributing food and cash aid is critical in the current emergency, long-term strategies must be developed to enable the Afghanistani people to achieve self-sufficiency. Only such sustainable approaches can bring lasting change to the country.
The WFP further reported that since the beginning of this year, nearly four million Afghanistanis have received cash assistance, with half of the recipients being women. This aid has been vital in helping families meet their basic needs amidst the ongoing economic crisis. Since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, the nation’s economy has faced severe challenges, leaving many without jobs. This situation has led to a significant rise in poverty and hunger throughout the country.
Over the past three years, poverty and unemployment have claimed numerous lives, pushing Afghanistan into a state of economic collapse and bankruptcy. Despite the Taliban’s return to power, they have yet to effectively address these critical issues confronting the Afghanistani population.
