RASC News Agency: The Afghanistan Embassy in Norway has officially announced the suspension of its diplomatic functions. In a statement released on Monday, September 9, 2024, the embassy in Oslo revealed that, at the request of the host country, its operations will be halted from September 11, 2024, until a “legitimate government is established in Afghanistan.” The statement further clarified that the embassy’s properties, including all movable and immovable assets, will be entrusted to the host country until the formation of a “legitimate system based on the will of the Afghanistani people.”
The embassy underscored: “Over the past three years, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Oslo, much like numerous other Afghanistani political and consular missions, continued its operations in adherence to the values of human rights, pluralism, and peace, despite facing significant challenges and working with limited resources.” The closure of Afghanistan diplomatic missions across Europe has accelerated in recent times. Previously, the Afghanistan Embassy in London, the capital of the United Kingdom, also announced its closure.
According to the embassy’s statement, its operations will be suspended following the directive from the host country after September 16, 2024. This development comes after the Taliban, a few months ago, declared that consular operations and documents certified by several European countries, including Norway, were “invalid.” For the past three years, these nations have refrained from engaging in formal diplomatic relations with the Taliban regime.
