Arrest of Five Individuals Accused of Membership in the Resistance Front

RASC News Agency: Local sources in Nimroz reported the arrest of five individuals by the Taliban on charges of belonging to the National Resistance Front. The Taliban detained these five individuals, accusing them of membership in the resistance. Previously, the group has arrested others on similar charges, only for it to be later proven that they had no connection to the resistance.

The Taliban have been known to arrest Tajiks under the pretext of resistance membership and various other accusations, subjecting them to torture and often executing them. Over the past three years, numerous mysterious murders have occurred, many of which have been carried out by Taliban members. During this period, the Taliban have detained, tortured, and killed numerous Tajiks. Often, individuals are taken from their homes, disappearing for months; sometimes their bodies are eventually found by their families, while others remain missing.

The Taliban, an ethnic Pashtun nationalist group, frequently detain, torture, and sometimes kill Tajiks simply for being Tajik. In the Taliban’s prisons, hundreds of young Tajiks endure constant torture, with many having their nails forcibly removed. Sources informed RASC on Monday, July 22, that the Taliban had arrested five individuals in Zaranj, the capital of Nimroz province, claiming they were members of the resistance.

Although the Taliban have not officially commented on the matter, internal sources confirm the arrest of the five individuals. These arrests follow an incident in which the National Resistance Front killed a Taliban commander and a fighter in Nimroz. Since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, the resistance front has carried out numerous successful guerrilla attacks against Taliban forces.
