Habiba Sarabi Rejects UN Invitation to Doha Meeting

RASC News Agency: Habiba Sarabi, the former governor of Bamiyan province, has announced she will not participate in the third Doha meeting. On her X account, Sarabi stated that although she received an invitation from the United Nations to attend the Doha meeting, she has decided not to participate. Sarabi cited the absence of discussions on women’s rights and human rights on the agenda of the third Doha meeting as her reason for declining the invitation.

She added that the UN has been unable to find a solution for Afghanistan based on UN Security Council Resolution 2721. The former governor of Bamiyan emphasized that women’s representatives and civil activists should have been included in the agenda of the third Doha meeting. Zubaida Akbar and Nabila Mosleh, two Afghanistani women’s rights activists, also declined to participate, stating, “There is no need to attend a meeting where women are marginalized.”

Previously, Stephane Dujarric, the UN spokesperson, mentioned that during the first two days, the Taliban would hold discussions with representatives of various countries and organizations. He added that on the third day of the meeting (after the conclusion of the main sessions), Afghanistani women representatives, civil society activists, and human rights defenders would have discussions with some country representatives.

It is worth noting that the third Doha meeting, hosted by the UN Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs and attended by representatives from over 30 countries and international organizations, is set to begin in Qatar in a few hours. This meeting has faced boycotts from Afghanistani women, and several prominent figures from the former Afghanistani government have accused the UN of whitewashing the Taliban.
