RASC News Agency: Following recent floods in parts of Samangan Province, local sources report that the district governors, intelligence chiefs, and police commanders of the Taliban have fled their offices in the Khuram Sarbagh and Roy Doab districts. Sources told the media on Tuesday, May 28th, that local Taliban officials in these two districts have been absent from their duties for several days.
According to these sources, the flooding has destroyed roads in Khuram Sarbagh and Roy Doab, but local Taliban officials managed to escape the districts via routes through Baghlan and Bamyan. Local Taliban officials have contacted residents by phone, requesting them to clear the roads. Additionally, local sources report that road closures due to flooding have caused the prices of essential goods to quadruple in these two districts.
The flight of local Taliban officials from Khuram Sarbagh and Roy Doab has sparked strong reactions from local Taliban members. Several Taliban-affiliated social media users have expressed that their local officials are neglecting the people’s needs and administrative responsibilities.
Recent rains and floods have resulted in significant loss of life and substantial financial damage to citizens. The Taliban recently announced that between May 24th and 26th, floods in the country claimed the lives of 21 people.
