Australia: Cricket with Afghanistan Off the Table Until Human Rights Situation Improves

RASC News Agency: Australia has postponed its friendly matches with Afghanistan due to the deteriorating human rights situation, especially for women and girls, following the Taliban takeover. International media outlets have reported that Cricket Australia officials had planned a series of 20-over matches consisting of three games between the Australian and Afghanistan cricket teams in March. However, this has been delayed due to the Australian government’s recommendation until the human rights situation in Afghanistan improves.

This decision marks Australia’s third refusal to engage in cricket matches with the Afghanistan team, citing concerns over the Taliban’s control and restrictions on women’s participation in sports competitions.

It is noteworthy that the Afghanistan Cricket Board previously announced a series of matches in the United Arab Emirates for March. Additionally, they reported that the Afghanistan cricket team achieved victory in the International Twenty20 matches against Ireland, with a margin of 57 runs.
