RASC News Agency: In their latest statements, the former Deputy Ambassador of the United States in Kabul stated that the reopening of their country’s embassy in Afghanistan under Taliban control would legitimize the regime of this group. Annie Pforzheimer, the former Deputy US Ambassador in Kabul, and Ashraf Haidari, Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, articulated in a joint article that the potential return of diplomats to the US Embassy in Kabul would legitimize the Taliban regime.
According to this article published by the American newspaper “The Hill,” having an embassy in a country with a hostile regime would constitute a neutral action, but sending diplomats to Afghanistan without obtaining consent from the Taliban is not impartial. Ms. Pforzheimer and Mr. Haidari added that American diplomats would need to consider security threats posed by Taliban guards in the embassy compound and during travel.
They suggest that the reopening of the US Embassy in Kabul would encourage other countries to take similar actions in this regard. According to reports from various American media outlets, the United States is contemplating the possibility of reopening its consulate in Afghanistan under Taliban control.
