RASC News Agency: According to local sources in Balkh province, a young girl committed suicide a few days after being released from a Taliban prison in the central areas of the province, bringing an end to her life. Sources informed the media on Sunday, Feb 4, that the incident took place last Friday in the third district of Mazar-e-Sharif, the center of Balkh province.
The young girl had been detained by Taliban forces for not adhering to the Taliban’s required dress code. Sources report that several girls were also detained by Taliban morality police yesterday for not adhering to the Taliban’s required dress code in the Yulmarb and Sharshara Alley areas of the third and fifth districts of Mazar-e-Sharif.
The Taliban have warned the families of the detained girls not to speak to the media about the detention of their daughters. In recent weeks, the Taliban have detained and taken away several young girls and women from various provinces of the country, with no information available about the fate of many of them, while some have been released after paying hefty sums of money.
This oppressive and misogynistic behavior by the Taliban has garnered widespread condemnation from political activists, Taliban critics, and international organizations.
