RASC News Agency: On January 15th, sources from Takhar province reported a sexual assault that transpired four days earlier. The perpetrators were two Taliban members, Qari Abdul Rahman and Qari Majid, associated with Ghulam Hussain, alias “Hassan Jindi,” a local Taliban commander. The incident unfolded in Khilan village, Chahab district, where the assailants entered a residence and sexually assaulted a 28-year-old woman.
According to available information, the victim, a mother of a toddler, is currently in unsatisfactory health. However, a reliable source disclosed that her case wasn’t escalated to central authorities in Takhar due to the interference of Ghulam Hussain, the Taliban group’s security commander in Baharak district, and the disapproval of the Chahab governor. Despite pleas from local elders in Khilan village to the Taliban governor, no action has been taken. It’s disheartening that the Taliban has a history of committing such violent acts without facing consequences.
The Taliban’s silence on this incident is alarming, especially given prior reports of their involvement in kidnapping and forced marriages. Since their ascent to power, Taliban members have repeatedly engaged in such violent behavior, inflicting immense suffering. It’s imperative that these acts are not disregarded, and measures are taken to ensure justice and safety for all citizens. The impunity of the Taliban must be addressed, and victims deserve support and protection.
